Frequently Asked Questions

The K Spa is the premier Atlanta medical spa and we offer a wide variety of cosmetic treatments for our patients who want to look and feel their best. All our medical spa services and treatments are overseen by our founder, Dr. Benjamin Stong, a dual board-certified and fellowship-trained facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions by our patients about our Atlanta medical spa and services.

What is Facial Plastic Surgery?
Facial plastic surgery focuses on changing the aesthetics and function of facial features. This is a sub-discipline of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery and can be for cosmetic or reconstructive purposes. Cosmetic facial plastic surgery is an elective procedure to improve the aesthetics of facial features. Examples include facelifts, rhinoplasty or lip enhancement procedures. Reconstructive plastic surgery is performed to address congenital defects, trauma or facial abnormalities that impact facial function. Examples of reconstructive facial plastic surgery include cleft lip repair, Mohs surgery repair and ear reconstruction. Restoring form and function are important in both types of facial plastic surgery.

What is a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon?
An elite facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon will complete a residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and a fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. They should be certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology. This specialized area of plastic surgery focuses on facial alterations to either improve function or appearance or both. Because it is your face and procedures performed should consider balance and aesthetics. Optimal results should look natural and rested. Facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons perform cosmetic facial procedures like rhinoplasty and facelifts, and also reconstruction from cancer, trauma or birth defects.

What is a double board-certified, fellowship-trained, facial plastic surgeon?
Elite facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons are double board-certified and fellowship-trained. This means they’ve completed a residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck surgery and an additional fellowship facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, attaining board certifications in both. Dr. Benjamin Stong is one of these elite double board-certified and fellowship-trained facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons, completing an impressive amount of training to enhance his surgical skills. With Dr. Stong overseeing things at our top Atlanta medical spa, you can rest assured that your treatment is the right treatment for you.

What is a cosmetic surgeon?
A cosmetic surgeon is not the same as a board-certified facial plastic surgeon but may perform similar procedures. A cosmetic surgeon does not usually have training in facial plastic surgery or plastic and reconstructive surgery. They usually perform surgeries on the face and body. Their level of training is much less than a board-certified Facial plastic surgeon and they are not required to meet the higher standards set by the surgical board that guides this field.

What is a facial cosmetic surgeon?
A facial cosmetic surgeon specializes in improving the appearance of facial features through surgical procedures. This can include rhinoplasty, lip enhancements, lift procedures and facial skin rejuvenation. It is important to seek a facial cosmetic surgeon that has been board-certified, preferably dual board-certified, to perform any facial enhancements.

What does double board-certification mean in plastic surgery?
Double or dual board certification in plastic surgery means a surgeon has undergone two separate residencies in specialties of plastic surgery. General plastic surgeons can be dual board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery, but may not specialize in facial plastic surgery. Dual board certification in facial plastic surgery requires the extra training, residency and certification by both the American Board of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. This requires more than just extensive education and training to achieve – it requires completing a set of qualifications, testing, and peer review by the ABFPRS.

Patients also want to know what to expect as far as cost, results, discomfort, downtime or recovery with the treatments offered at our Atlanta medical spa.

How are lasers used in skin rejuvenation?
Laser therapy uses controlled energy to affect tissue cells. In skin rejuvenation, there are different types of lasers that can be used to improve the health and appearance of the skin. The type of energy and depth of cells targeted in laser treatments can achieve different results. Laser therapy uses thermal energy that can help with skin rejuvenation. Depending on the type of laser used, skin laser treatments can improve the texture, tone, discolorations, and elasticity of the skin. Lasers are used for removing age spots, blood vessels, redness, fine lines, scarring and hyperpigmentation. The aestheticians at our Atlanta medical spa are highly trained and can recommend the most appropriate laser skin rejuvenation treatment for you.

Are non-surgical skin tightening treatments effective?
The skin loses elasticity as collagen and elastin levels wane with aging. In the early stages of aging, skin tightening treatments can be effective to improve the firmness of the skin. Skin tightening is offered at The K Spa, the premier Atlanta medical spa. One of our most popular skin tightening treatments is radiofrequency microneedling. Microneedling is combined with radiofrequency energy and used together to stimulate collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin production. The microneedling treatment can sometimes be used as an alternative to a surgical lift, improving the volume and firmness of the skin.

Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal is one of the most commonly requested aesthetic treatments in the united states, and is immensely popular among men and women of all ages. A great alternative to waxing, shaving and other inconvenient hair removal options.

Our professional Atlanta medical spa staff is well-trained and licensed and we’re on the cutting edge of technology with the options we offer for laser hair removal. A YAG laser is the workhorse for laser hair removal and offers effective results for all skin types including darker color skin types.

What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal uses single wavelength light energy to target unwanted hair follicles. The melanin in the hair follicle converts the light energy to heat, which causes damage to the follicle. This procedure can permanently stop hair growth in the treated area, creating smooth, hairless skin that will no longer need to be shaved, waxed or plucked. Common areas treated with laser hair removal include facial hair, legs, backs, underarms and bikini areas.

How many laser treatments will I need?
The number of laser hair removal treatments at our Atlanta medical spa that you will need typically ranges between six to nine sessions; at the end of that period, most patients observe a hair reduction of between 70 and 95 percent. The number of laser hair removal treatments needed depends on the thickness of hair growth in the area.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for my laser treatment?
A close shave is required for all laser hair removal treatments. It is best to shave the night before your treatment so the skin has some time to recover from irritation caused by the razor. It is also important to stop waxing, plucking, threading and tweezing in the targeted area for about three weeks prior to your first session. These hair removal methods remove the hair follicle, which will make the laser treatments ineffective. Our Atlanta medical spa staff will instruct you on how to prepare for your session when you book your appointment.

What should I avoid before my laser treatment?
In order to be treated by a laser, you will need to avoid sun exposure and self-tanners for 2 weeks prior to treatments. It is important that you are not tan and don’t plan on becoming tan throughout your treatments. You will also need to avoid antibiotics for 2 weeks before your laser hair removal treatments. Some antibiotics can cause you to become photo-sensitive which can therefore cause complications with your laser treatments. As well as off acutance for 6 months prior to treatment and off retinol 2 weeks prior to treatment.

Is laser hair removal safe for all skin types?
Yes, we have a YAG laser. YAG lasers are a safe treatment modality for all skin types including African American and Hispanic complexions.

Is laser hair removal right for me?
Laser hair removal is a great treatment option for our Atlanta medical spa patients with dark or coarse hair. However, even patients with fine hair can receive great laser hair removal results. The most important factor in determining candidacy is whether there is enough pigment in the hair being treated. For example, someone with blond, red or gray hair may not be an ideal candidate or may take more sessions to see significant results. If you’re unsure please contact us to schedule your laser hair removal consultation.

Is laser hair removal safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women?
Laser hair removal has not had testing done on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding therefore it is our Atlanta medical spa policy to not treat pregnant women and avoid breast tissue and underarm tissue if you are breastfeeding.

What should I expect to happen during and after my laser treatment?
Our lasers provide quick and effective laser hair removal treatments. It only takes 15 minutes to treat your bikini and 45 minutes to treat your full legs. You may feel a slight rubber band snap on your skin but any discomfort you feel will not linger. After your laser hair removal treatment, the skin may have some redness or minor welting to the areas being treated. This will usually subside within 24 hours. Your Atlanta medical spa may recommend using ice as well as aloe to help soothe after the laser. With each treatment, you will notice that the hair will begin to grow back much slower and the hair will be much finer. Eventually, the hair will no longer continue to grow!

How much does laser hair removal cost?
The cost of laser hair removal treatment depends on the size of the treatment area. Most or our Atlanta medical spa patients are shocked to discover just how affordable permanent hair removal can be.

Chemical Peels

The K Spa offers many different types of chemical peels. Our chemical peel treatments are all customized skincare treatments that are based on your skin type and concern.

What types of chemical peels do we offer?
The K Spa offers a variety of chemical peels to rejuvenate the skin and treat certain skin imperfections. We offer a variety of superficial and medium depth chemical peels, We have chemical peels for skin lightening, wrinkle treatment and rejuvenation, customized to the patients specific needs.

Are chemical peels safe for all skin types?
Light or medium chemical peels are safe for all skin types, but each patient may require different intensities of treatments. Dr. Ben Stong and our Atlanta medical spa team can determine the best treatment option to accomplish the cosmetic results you desire.

What is the downtime?
Chemical peels can result in peeling or flaking of the dead skin cells and downtime as the skin heals. Light chemical peel treatments may have minimal downtime, but deeper chemical peels will require time for the skin to heal. Deeper chemical peels can require downtime of up to two weeks after the treatment for the skin to heal.

What is the purpose of a chemical peel?
Chemical peels are used to rejuvenate the skin to reduce signs of aging and minimize imperfections on the skin. Chemical peels can be used to fade brown spots or hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, improve scarring, and refresh dull skin. Chemical peels are also one of the best ways to treat active acne by decreasing Propionibacterium Acne bacteria that are related to acne outbreaks. During the healing process, chemical peels stimulate collagen production. Our Atlanta medical spa patients enjoy a more youthful, blemish-free and even skin tone after their chemical peel treatments.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for my chemical peel treatment?
Depending on your skin type and the chemical peel intensity, our aesthetician may recommend preparing your skin for your treatment. Pre-treatment with medical-grade skincare products can help improve the results of the chemical peel. We meet with all of our Atlanta medical spa patients before their chemical peel procedure to discuss any pretreatment preparation and what to expect during and after the chemical peel.

What are the possible side effects?
Chemical peels break down the outer skin layer to help reveal new skin cells underneath. Depending on the intensity of the chemical peel, there can be peeling and sloughing of the old dead skin cells. Superficial chemical peels may only cause slight redness and flaking skin, while medium to deeper chemical peels will have pronounced redness and peeling skin. Deeper chemical peels can have a bleaching effect on the skin, which is why deeper chemical peel treatments are often only recommended by our medical spa staff for fair skin types.

Laser Genesis

What is laser genesis?
Many different laser skin treatments target different layers of the skin and have various effects. Laser genesis treatment at our Atlanta medical spa is a non-invasive skin treatment that offers skin rejuvenation. The laser genesis treatment can be performed on a lunch break and has no downtime for improving skin health and beauty. Some of the benefits of the laser genesis treatment include smaller pores, diminished wrinkles, reduced redness and acne treatment.

Is laser genesis safe for all skin types?
Due to the wavelength of light energy used in laser genesis treatments, it is safe for all skin types, even African-American and Hispanic Complexions. The laser genesis treatment penetrates deep into the skin to stimulate collagen and improve the tone and health of the skin while protecting the top layer of skin, or epidermis, so there is no peeling.

What areas can be treated with laser genesis?
The most common skin areas treated at our medical spa with laser genesis include the face, neck and décolleté. The collagen-building effects can help restore even skin tone and improve firmness to the skin. Additionally, practitioners may suggest this therapy to diminish recent scars on other parts of the body. Most sessions take 15 to 20 minutes but may be longer if a larger area is treated.

What is diffuse redness?
Diffuse redness is a general appearance of facial redness, such as rosy cheeks. This condition is caused by dilated capillaries, resulting in an appearance of general redness, not discrete, well-defined vessels. The most commonly affected areas are the nose, forehead and cheeks. Diffuse redness is associated with a condition call rosacea and it can be hereditary. Laser genesis at our medical spa will help your appearance by gently treating and reducing your diffuse redness condition.

How does laser genesis work?
Laser Genesis uses a YAG laser to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin. The light energy produces a heating effect in the dermis of the skin, stimulating the production of collagen. Increased levels of these important building blocks of the skin structure help improve elasticity and firmness, diminishing fine lines, scarring and wrinkles, plus shrinking large pores. The light energy can also target dilated capillaries to reduce redness from rosacea and other skin flaws.

What does the laser genesis procedure feel like?
One of the many benefits of laser genesis at our medical spa is that it is painless and requires no downtime. Our Atlanta medical spa patients often describe the laser genesis treatment as relaxing and therapeutic. You will experience a gentle warming of your skin’s surface during the procedure. You can immediately return to normal activities, utilizing sunscreen if participating in outdoor activities.

What kind of improvements can you expect with laser genesis?
Over the course of four to five treatments in our premier Atlanta medical spa, laser genesis can help restore the skin’s youthful glow and appearance. The individual laser genesis treatment results are subtle, but the overall effect of multiple treatments can be quite dramatic.

  • Safely and gently treat diffuse redness
  • Fades acne scarring
  • Continuously stimulates new collagen production
  • Reduces the appearance of fine line
  • Naturally promotes a healthy look
  • Reduction of large pores
  • Reduction of acne

How many laser genesis treatments will I need?
Each patient may have different results with laser genesis. Most patients will need at least three to six treatments in order to achieve optimal cosmetic results. Every patient’s condition and needs vary. For more information about your expected results or the number of laser genesis treatments necessary, contact our Atlanta medical spa for a consultation.

What are the possible side effects of laser genesis?
Most patients at our Atlanta medical spa do not have any negative side effects from laser genesis treatments. Some patients may experience a slight redness to the treated skin area, which usually fades in a few hours after their session.

When will I see results from laser genesis?
Since laser genesis works by increasing collagen to heal and rejuvenate the skin, results occur slowly. The skin begins to improve in health and texture over a few months. Slight improvements can be noticed in a few weeks, with more significant changes after 2 to 3 treatment sessions.

Microneedling

Microneedling can be used to rejuvenate the skin. Microneedling is effective in reducing fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, surgical and acne scars. Fractional microneedling or collagen induction therapy (CIT) uses needles to pierce the skin in a controlled and precise pattern. Compared to other skin rejuvenation treatments, Microneedling is safe on any skin type, has a short treatment time and minimal discomfort with virtually no downtime.

Does microneedling hurt?
The needles used for microneedling at our medical spa are tiny and only make minuscule perforations in the skin. A numbing agent is used to minimize any discomfort during the microneedling procedure. Our Atlanta medical spa aestheticians use a device that does not tear the skin, which can occur with some microneedling pens or rollers used in some day spas. The microneedling treatment is not painful but can be irritating to the skin.

How does microneedling work?
An automated device with a disposable tip cartridge, that uses tiny microneedles, is used to vertically stamp the skin at high speed. The micro-injuries made in the skin during microneedling stimulate a healing response without actually damaging the skin. This induces collagen production, which is why microneedling is considered a Collagen Induction Therapy, or CIT. The K Spa uses a stem cell cytokines application during and after microneedling to help promote skin healing. As the collagen levels increase, the skin can become firmer and rejuvenated, reducing scarring, lines and age spots for more youthful-appearing skin. All skin types can be treated by our highly trained Atlanta medical spa staff using microneedling. You can choose to treat your face, neck décolleté, or any area of concern.

How many microneedling sessions will I need?
Benefits of microneedling can be seen after just one treatment. The number of microneedling sessions needed depends on the extent of skin damage and the results desired. It is recommended for 3 to 6 treatments, spaced out between 3-4 weeks for maximum results. In cases where a more aggressive treatment schedule is needed such as scar revision, a greater number of microneedling treatments may be necessary for maximum results. Our Atlanta medical spa aesthetics’ team will consult with you to prepare a regime specifically for your skin type and concern.

What is the downtime after microneedling?
After a microneedling session, the skin may appear red, similar to a sunburn. The skin irritation should dissipate in a few hours or may last up to two days for patients who undergo deeper skin treatments, but there is no need for extensive downtime after a microneedling session. Besides the residual redness, you can return to your normal activities.

What can I expect after a microneedling treatment?
After your Microneedling treatment at our medical spa, please be aware and observe the following:

Immediately after your treatment, you will look as though you have a moderate to severe sunburn and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. This is normal and will subside after 1-2 hours and will normally recover with in the same day or 24 hours. You may see slight redness after 24 hours but only in minimal areas or spots.
Your technician will prescribe post-procedure skincare after the procedure to help soothe, calm and protect the skin. Continue use for 3 days. Active skincare can be resumed again after day 3.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for my microneedling treatment?
Prior to the treatment at our medical spa, please observe the following:

  • No auto-immune therapies or products 12 hours prior to your treatment.
  • No prolonged sun exposure to the face 24 hours prior to your treatment. A Micro-Needling treatment will not be administered on sunburned skin.
  • If an active or extreme acne breakout occurs before treatment, please consult your Atlanta medical spa aesthetician.
  • No using topical exfoliants, antibiotics or acne products, waxing for 5 to 7 days prior or shaving the skin the same day. Stopping use of anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen may also be recommended.

Be certain to adhere to the following post-treatment instructions:

  • Clean – use a soothing cleanser or face wash with tepid water to cleanse the face for the following 48 hours and gently dry the treated area. Always make sure that your hands are clean when touching the area.
  • Heal – in the days following your treatment, and as the skin starts to regenerate, collagen-stimulating peptides are ideal to continue stimulation and healing.
  • Makeup – it is recommended that makeup should not be applied for 12 hours after the procedure. However, your practitioner may be able to supply you with specialized mineral makeup
  • product that they feel would be suitable for use during this period. Do not apply any makeup with a makeup brush, especially if it is not clean.
  • Protect – immediately after the procedure, apply a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with an SPF30. A physical mineral blocker, chemical-free sunscreen is highly recommended.

What to avoid:
To ensure proper healing environment, be certain to observe the following:

  • For at least 2 hours post-treatment, do NOT use Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare.
  • Avoid intentional and direct sunlight for 24 hours. No tanning beds.
  • Do not go swimming for at least 24 hours post-treatment.
  • No exercising or strenuous activity for the first 24 hours post-treatment. Sweating and gym environments are harmful, rife with bacteria, and may cause adverse reactions.

What kind of improvements can you expect from microneedling?
Microneedling at our medical spa can improve the overall health and youthfulness of the skin. With three or more sessions the skin can become firmer, with fewer lines and wrinkles. Scarring and dark spots can fade as the skin rejuvenates and pore size may be diminished.

What does microneedling treat?
Microneedling is used to treat large pores, fine lines/wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, age spots, sagging skin and hyperpigmentation. Skin texture, tone and elasticity can be improved for healthier, more youthful-looking skin. Microneedling can help damaged or aging skin feel and look younger by increasing the collagen and elastin levels.

What are the possible side effects of microneedling?
There are no dangerous side effects that are related to microneedling treatments. Irritation to the skin during microneedling may result in redness, slight swelling and tenderness in some patients. These side effects quickly fade over the following 24 to 48 hours.

When will I see results from microneedling?
Most people begin to see some improvement in their skin a week or two after their first microneedling session. With each additional microneedling session at our Atlanta medical spa, more collagen is produced, and increased rejuvenation occurs. The full effect and results of 3 to 6 microneedling sessions can be seen over the next several months.

IPL/Photofacial

What is IPL?
Intense pulsed light or IPL, treatments use high-intensity light pulses to treat skin imperfections. IPL treatments are called by many different names, including photofacial, and photorejuvenation. The procedure offers the advantage of improving skin tone and surface imperfections associated with aging and photodamage. IPL treatments are a non-invasive alternative for a variety of skin treatments used for conditions on the chest, face, hands, and neck including:

  • Sun Damage
  • Rosacea
  • Broken Capillaries
  • Age Spots
  • Freckles
  • Brown Spots
  • Red or ruddy skin

What can I expect after an IPL treatment?
Most IPL treatments can be performed at our medical spa in less than half an hour and require no downtime. Some people may have a small amount of redness or puffiness after their treatment, but the redness will quickly dissipate over the next 24 hours.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for my IPL treatment?
Our Atlanta medical spa aesthetician will meet with you to discuss your IPL treatment and go over any pretreatment instructions. It is best to refrain from tanning the skin before IPL treatments and you may be asked to stop using certain topical creams before you have your IPL session.

How do IPL treatments work?
IPL uses spectrums of light that are preferentially absorbed by brown and red pigment in the skin. When the light is absorbed by sunspots and broken capillaries, it reduces their appearance. Sunspots slough off in normal exfoliation and broken capillaries are gradually reabsorbed by the body. With each IPL session, the skin becomes more even in tone as dark spots, redness, and discolorations fade.

How many IPL treatments will I need?
Most patients receiving IPL treatments at our medical spa will need 3 to 6 sessions at 3-4 weeks apart. Our Atlanta medical spa team will recommend the number of treatments for your skin to achieve the desired results.

Can I go out in the sun? What precautions do I have to take?
Those who have had sun exposure that has changed the color of their skin should wait two to three weeks before a photofacial. Patients will also need to be off all antibiotics for a minimum of two weeks before their sessions. Photofacials are only appropriate treatments for fair and medium complexions. You will want to avoid sun exposure after your IPL treatment for at least 48 hours. If you must go outside, cover the treated area by wearing clothing or a wide-brim hat and use sunscreen. Avoiding any heat to the treated skin (saunas or hot water) and any irritation is recommended for the first 24 to 48 hours.

Are IPL treatments safe for all skin types?
IPL is not recommended at our medical spa for all skin types, especially those with darker skin. An initial consultation with our Atlanta medical spa aesthetician will be performed to determine if IPL is right for your skin type. If IPL is not ideal for your skin, our highly trained aesthetician can recommend other treatments that can offer the desired result.

Do IPL treatments hurt?
IPL treatments are not painful, but have a warming, stinging or tingling sensation. Similar to a rubber band snap with a mild heat sensation.

When will I see results from my IPL treatment?
Many patients begin to notice results within a week or two after their first IPL treatment, but it may take three or more treatments to achieve the desired cosmetic results. Skin discolorations and spider veins will continue to fade more with each IPL treatment.

Vein Therapy

How does vein therapy work?
Reducing the appearance of some vascular birthmarks, varicose or spider veins can be accomplished with vein therapy. The K Spa uses laser therapy to reduce the appearance of birthmarks, broken capillaries or noticeable veins in the legs or face. Our specialized laser uses light energy to coagulate the targeted veins or capillaries, which destroys their structure. Over time, the particles of the veins are absorbed by the body and the red or bluish lines under the skin disappear.

Who is a candidate for laser vein therapy?
Laser vein therapy at our medical spa is safe and effective for all types of patients that have visible blood vessels. Even children with port-wine stains or birthmarks can undergo laser therapy to minimize the appearance of their vascular birthmark. Our Atlanta medical spa team can meet with patients who have spider veins, broken capillaries, birthmarks or vascular malformations to discuss whether vein therapy is the right treatment option for them.

What types of veins can be treated?
Laser therapy works well on many different vascular issues that cause unattractive skin colorations. Varicose or spider veins that become enlarged or noticeable under the skin can be treated with vein therapy. Common veins that can be treated are varicose veins in the legs, spider veins, vascular birthmarks, telangiectasia’s, and broken capillaries. The legs and face are the most common areas treated with laser vein therapy. Knotty varicose veins are not good candidates. A careful evaluation with our Atlanta medical spa team will help you determine which vessels can be treated and the best course of treatment.

How does vein therapy compare to sclerotherapy?
Laser vein therapy and sclerotherapy at our medical spa are both effective treatments for many types of varicose and spider veins. Sclerotherapy uses an injected medication to destroy the veins while vein laser therapy uses light or heat energy. However, there are types of vein formations and patients that are better suited to laser vein therapy. This includes facial spider veins, spider veins too small for injections, those allergic to sclerotherapy, those with fear of needles and those with telangiectatic matting (patches with many tiny capillaries or blood vessels). Both laser therapy and sclerotherapy take a similar amount of time to achieve results.

What does laser vein therapy treat?
Laser vein therapy can be used to treat many different surface veins and formations. Varicose veins, spider veins, broken capillaries, hemangiomas (birthmarks), telangiectatic matting and blood blisters can all be effectively treated with laser therapy. The K Spa offers safe laser vein therapy for many types of vein abnormalities that can reduce their appearance and help improve the self-confidence of our Atlanta medical spa patients.

How many laser vein treatments will I need?
Most vein therapy will include a series of laser treatments to completely dissolve the targeted veins. These laser vein therapy sessions are quick, usually 15 to 20 minutes, and are scheduled about four weeks apart. Larger areas will require more time. The number of laser vein treatments needed depends on the veins treated. Spider and varicose veins or broken capillaries may only need 2 to 3 treatments, while larger vascular formations like port-wine stains may require more laser vein treatments.

Does laser vein therapy hurt?
Laser vein therapy is not painful for most people. Most patients feel a brief tingling or a stinging sensation during the procedure. However, we do offer a numbing agent to help minimize any discomfort for our patients.

What can I expect after laser vein treatment?
There is no downtime needed with laser vein therapy treatments. You can return to normal activities immediately after your Atlanta medical spa session. The area treated may be red or appear bruised; some people treating spider veins will notice a small lump on the skin in the treated area that disappears in a few hours. These effects typically last for less than 24 hours. Some patients may experience bruising and, in rare instances, blistering may occur. Any residual redness or discoloration will dissipate quickly after the procedure. Some people will feel a burning sensation in the treated area for an hour or two after vein therapy.

What are the possible side effects of laser vein therapy?
Laser vein therapy rarely has side effects. Some of our Atlanta medical spa patients may experience redness, bruising, burning, or swelling. Any side effects will usually go away within a few days after treatment.

Are there any restrictions on my activity after laser vein therapy treatments?
In most cases, you can return to all your regular activities after laser vein therapy. If you have varicose or spider veins treated in your legs, you may be advised to refrain from strenuous exercise for 24 hours after your treatment. It is recommended to use sunscreen on the treated areas for a few weeks after each laser vein therapy session.

When will I see results from laser vein therapy?
Laser vein therapy results are not immediate. Most spider or varicose veins will begin to shrink or become less noticeable in about 2 to 4 weeks and are reduced with each subsequent laser treatment session. The same is true for vascular malformations or birthmarks. Improvement is noticeable in a few weeks, but it may require several months to obtain the desired result. Over time, it is possible for new veins to appear, but these too can be treated by our premier Atlanta medical spa.

Frequently asked injectable questions

What are bruise-free injectables?
The K Spa uses a bruise-free technique for all our cosmetic injectables. Dr. Stong and our Atlanta medical spa team use blunt tip microcannulas that can deliver the injectable with much less risk of damaging blood vessels. Sharp tipped needles often leave the area swollen and bruised after cosmetic injections due to the likelihood of piercing a blood vessel. The blunt tips on our microcannulas will rarely damage a blood vessel, giving our patient bruise-free injections for discreet cosmetic treatments.

What are facial injectables?
There are a wide variety of cosmetic injections or facial injectables that can improve the appearance of the face or skin. These treatments use injectable substances that can help minimize the signs of aging, plump the skin or even change the shape of facial features. Some of the most popular facial injectables are neuromodulators, injectable fillers and fat dissolvers.

Facial injectables are a wonderful option for improving the appearance of the face. They can smooth lines and wrinkles, reduce a double chin or plump thin lips. Facial injectables are a popular choice because they are non-invasive. In a quick visit to our Atlanta medical spa, our patients can receive cosmetic injections to help them look younger and more attractive without downtime or recovery. Facial injectables are often used as a temporary option to delay plastic surgery, or for those who do not want cosmetic surgery.

What is a neuromodulator?
Neuromodulator injectables target the nerve signals to the muscles, stopping the muscles from contracting. Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Jeuveau are examples of cosmetic neuromodulator injectables we use at our Atlanta medical spa. These injectables can relax facial muscles that cause common lines or wrinkles on the forehead (worry lines) or around the eyes (crow’s feet). Neuromodulator injections can also be used to change the appearance of certain facial features by relaxing certain muscles.

What are facial fillers?
Facial fillers work to add volume to the face. There are various facial fillers that add volume using different methods. Hyaluronic acid fillers are very safe and have instantaneous results that last for several months or more. Other facial fillers work to increase collagen and elastin in the skin for firmer skin with fewer lines and wrinkles but may not have immediate results.

Facial fillers are commonly used to smooth deep lines or add volume to smaller or deficient facial structures. They can also contour the face for a more youthful appearance. Knowing the right facial filler to use is vital to achieving the desired result for the patient. The expertise of our dual board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Stong and our highly trained Atlanta medical spa team gives our patients access to the best techniques for achieving incredible results with facial filler injectables.

What is the difference between facial fillers and facial injectables like Botox?
Both facial fillers and neuromodulator facial injectables like Botox can minimize lines and wrinkles, but they achieve it differently. Facial fillers plump under the skin to fill folds and creases, enhance the appearance of a particular facial feature, decreasing the appearance of some types of lines or wrinkles. Botox or other neuromodulator injectables relax muscles that cause lines when they contract, like the “11” between the eyebrows or crow’s feet around the eyes. Often, both types of injectables can be used in tandem to create a more youthful appearance.

What are microcannula facial filler injections?
If more volume is desired in the lips, or you want to smooth lines or add contours to the face, facial filler injections are an excellent choice. Microcannula facial filler injections can add volume under the skin without damaging blood vessels. This method delivers the facial filler where desired without leaving a noticeable bruise. Dr. Stong is one of the few facial plastic surgeons that exclusively uses bruise-free injections at his premier Atlanta medical spa for all his facial fillers and neuromodulator treatments.

Why do microcannula injections result in less bruising?
Microcannula injections are the preferable option for facial fillers as they can deliver the filler product without piercing blood vessels. The cannulas have blunt tips that can slide by blood vessels without puncturing. This eliminates bruising at the site of the injection for discreet cosmetic treatments. The K Spa only uses bruise-free injections for our patients under the direction of Dr. Stong.

Which facial filler is best for me?
There is not one facial filler that is best for everyone. The K Spa offers dozens of different facial filler injectables, each with its own advantages. Some facial fillers are best for smoothing superficial lines or plumping lips. Others offer firmer volume for contouring cheeks or smoothing deep smile lines. To determine the best facial filler for you, we will schedule a consultation for you to discuss your desired result with Dr. Stong or one of his team at our premier Atlanta medical spa. Based on the area to be treated and your specific goals, our cosmetic professionals can recommend a filler that will best achieve the desired result.

How many treatments will I need?
Facial filler and neuromodulator injectables often only require one treatment to achieve the desired result. Some cosmetic injections offer immediate results, and some take a few days to work with one treatment. Others can slowly improve the appearance of the face or neck over a few months with multiple treatments. Most injectables need to be repeated to sustain results – how often depends on the type of injection. Kybella and Sculptra injections usually require a series of injections to obtain the desired result.

Are facial injectables a substitute for surgery?
Facial injectables done at our premier Atlanta medical spa can be a temporary substitute for plastic surgery, but they do not have the same results. Facial fillers and neuromodulators can help diminish lines and wrinkles or improve the skin and shape of the face or features, but they are temporary. Facial injectables cannot achieve the same effect as a facelift for removing excess or sagging skin or elevating facial tissues. However, they can offer facial improvement and may help delay the desire for more invasive cosmetic treatments or surgery.

What are the downsides to facial injectables?
The downside to facial injectables is that they are a temporary fix. Plumping the lips or filling lines with facial fillers will not stop the aging process but can improve the appearance for several months. Repeated injections are needed to sustain results. Eventually, the skin and facial tissue will begin to sag and stretch due to aging, even with the use of facial injectables. These injectables can help slow the aging process, but they will not stop or alter it. To achieve more dramatic or permanent results, plastic surgery may be necessary.

What is Kybella?
Kybella injections are used to reduce the fat under the chin that can develop due to aging or genetics. These injections target the fat cells and cause them to disintegrate, reducing the appearance of a double chin. Usually, a series of 2 to 3 Kybella treatments are needed over a few months to achieve the desired result. Kybella injections are FDA approved for treating chin fat and can be a non-invasive option for restoring definition to the chin, jaw and face.

Nonsurgical fat reduction

What is nonsurgical fat reduction?
For targeted fat reduction without liposuction or surgery, treatments using different energy can be used to shrink or dissolve fat cells. The procedure can be performed at our Atlanta medical spa and is non-invasive, using a device to deliver light or energy to the cells. Nonsurgical fat reduction methods work by impacting the fat cells in the targeted area – heat energy or freezing (cryolipolysis) are non-surgical treatment options.

During nonsurgical fat reduction procedures, the fat cells in the targeted area are exposed to energy or freezing through the skin that can impact the cell structure. The fat cells can shrink or dissolve, with the fat absorbed back into the bloodstream. The result is a permanent reduction of fat in the treated area over the following weeks, helping contour the body.

Who is a good candidate?
Nonsurgical fat reduction procedures are ideal for those who have targeted areas of fat accumulation that are resistant to diet and exercise. It is not for weight loss, but they are a contouring method to remove targeted areas of fat. Good candidates are active and height-weight proportionate with small areas of fat they want to remove on thighs, abdomen, back, butt and chin.

How many treatments will I need?
Most people who undergo nonsurgical fat reduction procedures at our Atlanta medical spa will require more than one treatment. The number of treatments will vary by patient and the type of fat reduction used. Typically, sessions last less than an hour and there is no downtime for recovery after the procedure. Treatments can be spaced a week apart or possibly a few months apart depending on what is needed in order to achieve the desired results.

What kind of results can I expect?
Nonsurgical fat reduction can noticeably reduce the targeted fat in an area, often shrinking the targeted fat by 20% or more. The damaged fat cells do not regenerate, if the damaged fat cells are absorbed by the body, the fat cells that have been absorbed are gone forever. Both RF and freezing techniques have high satisfaction rates with patients, helping shrink and sculpt the targeted areas on the body which produces the desired cosmetic results.

Nonsurgical Skin Tightening

What is nonsurgical skin tightening?
Aging skin can lose elasticity, becoming thinner and less firm due to loss of collagen and elastin. Nonsurgical skin tightening at our Atlanta medical spa uses radiofrequency energy to stimulate elastin and collagen production and improve the texture and firmness of the treated skin areas. These treatments can be performed in a medical spa with little or no downtime needed after the procedure, depending on the type of skin tightening treatment used. The treatments are non-invasive and usually require less than one hour to perform.

Who is a good candidate?
Those who have noticed diminishing skin firmness or a “crepey” appearance to skin on the face, neck, chest, abdomen, arms, legs or hands may be good candidates for nonsurgical skin tightening. These procedures can enhance collagen and elastin production and help rejuvenate mild to moderate skin laxity. Most RF procedures used for skin tightening are safe and FDA-approved, but usually not recommended for those who are pregnant – there may be restrictions for patients on certain medications or with some health conditions.

How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments required at our Atlanta medical spa depends on the type of skin tightening method used, the level of skin laxity and the desired results of the patient. Your aesthetician or plastic surgeon can help determine the best treatment regimen, based on the type of treatment desired and your specific skin needs.

What kind of results can I expect?
Nonsurgical skin tightening occurs slowly, usually requiring several weeks or more to realize results. As collagen and elastin are increased with treatments, the skin can appear firmer and more toned. The texture may improve and small lines or wrinkles may diminish. Some patients notice a lifted appearance to the treated areas and “crepey” skin can become smoother, firmer and more youthful. The results are permanent, but patients that want to maintain their tighter skin will require additional treatments, as the aging of the skin continues.
